So fishing can be funny at times. 2 people can know of each other.Be friends with and fish with the same people exact people but never officially meet. That is Brian Jill & I.

For that reason I still consider him a good fishing homey and if he showed up at more front door I would treat him like I do all my good fishing homeys. Feed him, give him a place to lay his head and forget all my responsibilities to go and throw line while they visit.

You know with all the 'Buzz" around 2 handed/Spey Rods sometimes we forget the funniest things about the world. Take for instance my good friend Mike Kinney. My boy Burke sent me this awesome picture of Mike that is just classic! If you don't know Mike, he was one of the people that helped to bang out the technique of Skagit Style of fishing with 2 handed/Spey rods. 25+ years of chuckin line is a lot of knowledge. Having not spent as much time with him as I would like to absorb more, I do consider myself lucky to have learned as much as I can. Now here is the best thing about this...HE STILL GUIDES!! This is like going fishing with Lefty Kreh for the day gents..If you are ever in the Northwest and want to have an awesome day on the 2 or single handed rod you should look him up...

You know every once in a while in the world of fly fishing were most of it is over priced and you never pay the listed price unless you are that guy! (Sorry if you're that guy. If you aren't sure then you probably are and that's another topic!!) There comes along a brand that really represents the sport. There the guys you pay full price for just because you are investing in them as much as they are investing in you. they got a great product, great service and quite frankly their just good darsh gone people!!
As I am watching Hustle & Flow with my kids in downtown Seattle at The Fly Fishing Film Tour presented by The Drake, I realize that over the last 3 years one of the only constants has been Patagonia. They have invested time & time again not only in the fly fishing culture but in improving our world as we know it. The gear is really good and actually worth every dollar you spend with them. The other constant is that BackYard is always drunk but we are praying for him!

Now I must say that anybody that puts wool in the booties of their waders is my friend to begin with cause a brother don't like cold feet!! MERINO WOOL TOO! That's the good stuff too!! If they lined the whole inside with it I would probably fish Butt naked!! That's PataGucci!! Now Marinate on that till the flavor is in the bone!

So with all the Hype and threats on lives concerning British Pete I thought it only righteous that we show you how to properly handle this situation in the future. Below we have a perfect example of this...Plus whoever wrote this really wanted to sell some LOOP and nothing sells more gear than really hot FISH PORN!! They should have a PPV channel dedicated to this...MARINATE!!

Our Loop Team Finland member Antti Pirinen visited Steelhead Heaven in Northern British Columbia in late September for some steelhead fishing. This monster was lurking in a small BC river. After catching three beautiful steelheads it was already a perfect day. There was no pressure after such a great fishing, no expectations left. Then it hit! A huge steelhead ran down and across the river making a series of huge leaps. There was nothing small about this fish. From the first moment on it was all brutish power, monstrous proportions and rage. As it jumped water splashed pure silver and bright pink. Antti managed to stop the run and started walking down stream to give him pull from another angle. With the Opti Speedrunner Antti put the brakes on this bad boy and the fight lasted no more than seven minutes. Local fishing people claim this 30lbs steelhead to be the largest fly caught steelhead ever recorded on this river in Skeena country. After a few quick photos this monster buck got his well deserved freedom and continues the journey in his home river.

What you are looking at is what my be the new IFGA World Record Steelhead taken on a flyrod. This is a fish of a lifetime! Yet it was wild! The rules say you may have 1 wild fish. As passionate as Steelheaders are is as passionate as they desire to protect the resource. I never judge! Was I there in his shoes in his mind and knew his thoughts? NO! and even if I was, I still don't think I would want to be apart of what had to be one tough decision...

Sometimes a situation reminds you of what it means to be "Sick" with a passion for fishing. As Steelhead numbers dwindle and dwindle in the PNW, the struggle to hook and land fish on the fly has required more and more effort. More days standing in freezing cold rain, more hours fishing through that run "one more time". You're fishing the right water, you're confident in your flies, you're reading the books, saying your prayers and eating your vitamins! There are grown men who have gone there whole lives and never felt the Chrome tug on their line! But they keep going out there for the day they do. My boy Buddha recently had his day! After years of chasing and chasing and chasing! Buddha has reached the top of the mountain! CONGRATS BRO! Well deserved!!

He submitted a great story about his first trip to British Columbia to throw some flys and had some great pictures of the infamous Chum "DOG" Salmon. They are big nasty and ugly but when hooked pull like a monster truck in a mud bog at a weight pulling competition! Pure adrenaline! So my main man fifty grand Ron from All About the Fly and I hooked up for some fishing on the Skykomish River on Monday to chase Sea-Run CuttThroats from the drift boat. It as an amazing morning with Ron snatching this lovely 18+ inch fish. You should have seen the hook set and proper handle and release. What we didn't see was the Bald Eagle that watched the whole situation from a tree and came down 3 seconds after we released the fish to take him home for lunch! Man nature can be brutal! Marinate!

If you fish the east coast in the summer you know what comes with it. 95 degree days with 90% humidity. If you come where I come from you also have to consider the raptors that someone has genealogically labelled "Mosquito's". By the end of the day, a T-shirt sticks to you and believing you will go long sleeved in that heat will leave you in the ER dehydrated or hooked on Gatorade. So the guys designed this shirt made, for the most humid of days, out of Star Trek uniform space age materials to handle the job. You might have seen one that looks like it. Brandon White and team have put together a great site in Tidal Fish. I had a chance to meet Brandon when we ran into each other at the Salisbury Fly Shop on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Today I was down at Bissell Park in Radford and met Dee and his cousin. Dee's uncle had just passed and the two of them had spent time with him throughout his life chasing big Smallies with him when on the New River. So today they decided, in memory and honor of him, they would go where he most likely would want to be, On the New River with them chasing Smallies.
It's so easy sometimes to forget that this passion we have has been very instrumental in the lessons of life and the tribal knowledge that is passed is only surpassed by the quality of time we spend together. Watching these two have a lights out day really reminded me that it's really not about the fishing but about the memories and the people we become between the tugs. Shoot we missed the high tide!

So we planned to fish one of my favorite saltwater spots on the eastern shore of Maryland, unfortunately we where just a little late on the high tide. So though we didn't have a great shot at catching monster Atlantic Croakers, Seatrout and Stripers my boys failed to allow a low tide stop them. Its amazing to watch my boys throw line. Watching them study for a tug really brings the core of this passion to the surface..Marinate.

Finally had a couple of hours to fish some off the beaten section of the lower New River. There is so much good water in this section it is hard to know where to start! 2months to learn. I threw a few poppers but after trekking through many back country roads, time was shorter than expected. Still, it was good to just throw line! What I would do for a Watermaster right now! I visited Blue Ridge Fly Fisher's yesterday in Roanoke, VA and unfortunately they are closing their doors over the next couple of weeks. A Fisherman's best Father's Day Gift!

Well on Sunday, I took my 2 oldest boys out fishing at the pond behind the house. With me working so hard, I have been watching them fish more than fish myself. They had been after the fish in that pond since we got here and on father's they got the skunk off with a few Sunfish. Not big enough for a grip and grin but the best gift I could have asked for on father's day (Even though the Camo hat they had me pick out in the store was pretty awesome)! Just think one day they'll steal my credit cards and charge a trip for all of us for a father's day excursion to Costa Rica! I can't wait to try and get on them about that one! Marinate!

So I just got off the phone with DQ. You guys remember him I am sure. Seems DQ did some Tarpon fishing today in Tampa and joined the 100 pound club! DQ and I fish together in the North West but recent opportunity has had him in Florida a few times his year wetting his fly in the Southern Salt . I am jealous but happy for the man! He is certainly on a run so far this year. I would love to see the list of names of "legends" that became "legends" while he was poling from the back of the boat. I don't remember seeing him on the cover any magazine.

Two months in what I am quickly discovering may be the holy waters of VA. Clayton Lake, Smith Mountain Lake, The New River, Staughton River, The James River and numerous backyard creeks and streams. World class small mouth, Striper, Walleye, Musky, Trout and Brim fishing combined with access to the entire eastern seaboard. If I am lost call my family and tell them I'm fishing! Marinate!

So yesterday while out chuckin for BASS my buddy and I had the most amazing conversation about people and the events that introduced them to the world. After 4 hours of debating while rippin lips, we came to the conclusion that "LL Cool J's" intro to the world may be one of the most classic of all time.
